Scholarship Physics
SSPHYS Course Description Recommended Prior LearningStudents participating in Physics Scholarship have, ideally, completed Level 2 Physics and are currently studying Level 3 Physics. It is very unlikely for a student to succeed in Scholarship Physics without understanding the content from the Level 3 Physics course. Students who do not fit the above profile will need to carry out significant independent learning outside of the sessions in order to be able to successfully engage with them.
Scholarship sessions will focus on topics that should have been covered in the main courses. Early sessions will focus on questions themed around learning from the Level 2 standards. As the Level 3 course progresses, sessions will focus on questions that are linked to the Level 3 content covered so far.
Physics Scholarship is an extremely challenging endeavour involving a significant amount of mathematics.
Students will sit a 3 hour external examination in November and will be asked to explore complex problems linked to the Physics concepts covered in NCEA Level 2 and 3 Physics standards. The questions will involve a significant amount of algebraic manipulation.
