Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Ms C. Song

The Year 10 Chinese course builds on the content covered in Year 9 and will start with some revision of the Year 9 programme. We will continue to practise and build confidence in using pinyin. Students will also increase their knowledge of vocabulary and sentence patterns in pinyin and Chinese characters. While the skills of listening and speaking remain important, we will also aim to extend reading and writing skills. The topics covered this year are:

China and Chinese, My Birthday Party,  Ask for directions
My Family, My Pets and Friends, My Daily Routine,  Food and Eating
Countries and Languages
Sports and Leisure Activities, My Clothes, Trip Planner


Course Overview

Term 1
The course starts with a revision and expansion of Year 9 course on the topics of
-self introduction
-family members;
-friends and classmates
and continue to learn the topics on
-food and drinks
Then students will continue to develop character writings and practise calligraphy writing

Term 2
Students will learn the topics on
-ordering in a Chinese restaurants
-schoolmates and campus
-school subjects and preferences
-activities and hobbies
Students will continue to explore cultures of China and other Chinese speaking countries and areas

Term 3
Students will learn the topics on
-travel
-transport
-weather
Students will be able to make a brief travel plan with friends

Term 4
Students will learn the topics on
-physical appearance
-clothes
Students will be able to describe their friends and idols

Recommended Prior Learning

Year 9 Chinese; 

Students of no prior learning can opt for this course on approval of TIC Chinese;

Students of Chinese heritage can opt for this course on approval of TIC Chinese.
