Level 1 Drama
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Ms B. Cannan.
In Level 1 Drama, students will interpret scripted drama and devise their own pieces for performance. Students view and reflect on the effectiveness of live theatre, and adapt the conventions of a specific theatre form to their own stagecraft. They will be introduced to theatre styles such as New Zealand Theatre.
As part of the Drama course, they are to view professional live theatre. In this course, students will view at least one live show a year. This is usually during school time and will cost approximately $30.
There is an emphasis on group work and strong attendance is required to ensure individual and group success.

The skills taught in Drama can help aid confidence and empathy which are beneficial in numerous careers such as Law, Psychology and Nursing. They also help prepare students for courses in the media, community arts, education and any profession which requires working with people like sales.
Directly, Drama helps prepare students for work in the Performing Arts including back stage or creative careers like technicians, designers or directing.
Assessment Information
This course includes two units of significant learning. The first involves students working in groups to create original performances based on different stimuli. The second requires students to respond to live performance through performing scripted work as well as watching theatre from multiple contexts. Evidence for both of these may be collected in different formats.Credit Information
You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.
This course is eligible for subject endorsement.
