University Entrance Literacy and 12 credits in Level 2 Art History including at least one external, or 15 credits in Level 2 English, or at the discretion of the HoD.





In this course, students develop a set of skills to read art works and relate their making to historical, social and cultural contexts in order to gain a deeper understanding of the art works intention and meaning. Art History students develop skills in critical writing, research and imagery analysis. The areas of study for this course are 19th century French Art, covering a range of key art movements such as Neoclassicism, Romanticism, Realism, Impressionism and Post-Impressionism, and Art in Aotearoa, covering exploration and colonisation to contemporary Māori Art. 

An achieved or better in Level 1 literacy is recommended.
