Year 9 Music Academy is an extension class for Year 9 students who have previously learnt a musical instrument and are motivated to develop their musicianship further.

Music Academy is a one year course where students learn and play in a range of ensembles including string orchestra, concert band, vocal ensemble, chamber groups and rock/pop bands. It is a practical-based course and students are expected to learn an instrument and participate in school based ensembles. Music lessons are available through the Westlake Itinerant Program. The class is provided with performance opportunities throughout the year within the school and the local community. Students will also extend their music knowledge through researching a wide range of styles and genres, creating a composition portfolio, and developing their theory and aural skills.
