Course Description

“Nāu mai, hoki mai”
The Year 10 course will continue to observe Māori values, customs and protocols. The course starts with revision of the Year 9 programme, then moves on to the following content:-
• Te tinana, Ngā kākahu – Body and Clothing
• Ngā kai, Te hokokai – Food and Shopping
• Taku whare, Taku kāinga – House, Home, and Chores – Maori Myths and Legends
• Ngā hākinakina, Ngā ranuranu – Sport and Leisure
• Te haere ki te tāone , Ngā waka – Travel and Transport
• Te wā/tāima – Time, Weather, Seasons

We will continue to practise and develop the four essential language skills; listening, speaking, reading comprehension and writing, with the support of the Te Matapuna and Te Rangatahi series. A willingness to learn vocabulary regularly is the key to success in this course.

Recommended Prior Learning

Year 9 Te Reo Māori or equivalent. Students who have not completed the Year 9 course but who are prepared to work hard to catch up may be allowed to join this class after discussion with both the teacher of Te Reo Māori and their Dean.

You may apply for an exemption if you do not meet the prerequisites of a course or if the course requires this for entry

Standards offered can be altered at the discretion of the HOF or HOD of the Department

Some standards in NCEA courses might be optional depending on student strengths
