Course Description

The Year 11 Mathematics course covers Level 6 of Mathematics and Statistics in the New Zealand Curriculum document. As Year 11 students, you will be studying towards NCEA Level 1. The aim of this course is to provide a firm basis for any mathematical work undertaken in Year 12 and higher levels and also to encourage the development of mathematical processes. This is also your opportunity to gain the 10 credits needed for Level 1 Numeracy as a condition of achieving NCEA Level 1. 10 Level 1 credits in this subject (or equivalent) are also required to gain University Entrance in New Zealand.
After successfully completing this course you will be able to continue your statistics journey into a university approved pathway, via Year 12 Practical Statistics.
This is an appropriate course for those students who do not plan to progress in a Mathematics related discipline such as Science, Economics or Engineering. Those students who plan to progress in a Mathematics related discipline should take 11MATS.
This course is assessed using 4 internal achievement standards and 1 external achievement standard.
The standards offered in this course may be altered at the discretion of the Head of Department.
