Level 3 Art Photography

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs H. Son.

At Level 2, students work on an individualised program. Building from Level 1 design and photography, students further develop skills and understanding of photography through research of established and contemporary practice, the creation and manipulation of imagery, and idea development. Students will learn to select and analyse the ideas and techniques of various established artists to help inform their own creative understanding and decision-making process. This course introduces more independent working options in preparation for Level 3 requirements.

An achieved or better in Level 1 VA course is recommended, or by approval from HOD.

Course Material Costs

Students are NOT required to purchase equipment from Gordon Harris for this course. However, they need a good-quality USB drive to store/backup their work. Due to mainly digital processes throughout the year, in school printing costs are kept to a minimum.
Year 13 Photography students are required to print their final folio of images at the approximate cost of $60 in Late November.

Year 13 Photography students will also be required to pay a courier fee of approximately $15 to have their folio sent and returned from the NCEA marking centre in late November.

In addition, all students are required to purchase the ADOBE CREATIVE SUITE. We have a great offer for students to purchase a 1-year license. It is essential to have as students use Photoshop / InDesign / Illustrator in this course. It costs $10 and can be purchased online or at the Payments office.

Pathway

Art Photography courses teach students the transferable skills of research, decision making, critical analysis and perseverance through feedback processes. So in addition to the many Visual Arts and Photographic career options, any employer will value our students' ability to self-manage toward assessment goals and to problem solve in a practical, proactive way.
